Healthy Homes Create Healthy Children

While education is our north star, holistic care is the compass that guides us every step of the way. At the Kamukama Foundation, we are committed to nourishing the whole child–educationally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically. We know that learning begins with good health, and good health begins at home.

In Uganda, nearly one in four children suffer from chronic malnutrition, making it difficult to grow, learn, and thrive. That’s why our work extends far beyond the classroom. Nutritious meals, healthcare, clean water, and family support are essential building blocks that allow children to fully benefit from an education.

This year, we launched a cooking class initiative that has brought families together around a different kind of classroom. Led by our talented Project Health Coordinator, Liz Ariho, parents are gaining the practical knowledge and confidence needed to nourish their families. Using fresh produce harvested through Project Harvest, along with other locally sourced ingredients, families are learning how to prepare balanced, nutrient-dense meals that are both affordable and sustainable. More than a place to learn new recipes, these gatherings have become a space where parents learn from one another and build meaningful connections.

By equipping parents with knowledge they can use every day, we’re helping combat malnutrition, improve health outcomes, and build lifelong habits that strengthen families for generations. Because when children are well nourished, they are better able to learn, grow, and dream of brighter futures.
